Welcome
I am a Lecturer in the Psychology Department at the University of Derby. I teach on a variety of modules, specifically on statistics and research methods, and on parapsychology.
I graduated from Coventry University in 2000 with a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Psychology. In 2001, I graduated with a M.Sc. by Research in Psychology from the University of Edinburgh. I graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2007 with a PhD in Psychology. My thesis was entitled "The Electrophysiological Processing of Remote Staring Detection."
During my PhD I used several measures of electrophysiological functioning, including; skin conductance (SC), event-related potentials (ERPs), global field power (GFP), Fast-Fourier Transforms (FFTs), partial least squares (PLS) and event-related band-power (ERBP). I also examined belief and experiences of remote staring detection using a variety of questionnaires in two large-scale surveys.
I have worked as a Research Assistant on several projects, and presented guest lectures at a number of different Universities. I am the Editor of the European Journal of Parapsychology and the Chair of the Higher Education Academy's (HEA) Teaching Anomalous Psychology and Parapsychology (TAPP) Network. With regard to my affiliations, I am a Chartered Psychologist and a Graduate Member of the British Psychological Society (BPS), a full member of the Parapsychological Association (PA), a member of the British Association for Cognitive Neuroscience (BACN), and a member of the Society for Psychical Research (SPR).
Read my guide on "Becoming a Parapsychologist". I wrote this to try and advise some of the students who contact me asking about this complex issue.
